Spartan Judo - Novice & Brown belt collegiate tournament

CONTEST RULES 

RULES of the matches: Attire: Judo gi of legal size. We will be enforcing "Safe Sport" criteria. There will be no changing down to under garments outside of designated areas (bathrooms or locker rooms Women need a T-shirt or solid leotard. 

The matches will be conducted using the current Contest Rules for Judo as stipulated by the International Judo Federation (IJF) and adopted by USA Judo on December 21, 2009, with the following modifications: 

  1. White and Blue uniforms will required in all standard divisions; for Novice divisions Blue uniforms may be used, but White uniforms will be required, Blue & White Belts will be provided at the tournament.
  2. There will be NO CHOKES and NO Double Knee Drop Techniques allowed in the Novice divisions. First offense will be SHIDO and No Score, and Hansokumake on subsequent offenses.
  3. All IJF Rules will apply in the Standard and Alumni Divisions 

Match Time  Standard (Brown): 4 minutes : WITH Golden Score

Novice (white - two semesters or less/ Green - more than a year of Judo) : 3 minutes : WITH Golden Score

Athletes may only compete in ONE (1) divisions - Novice or Standard or Alumni

10 (Gold), 7 (Silver), 5 (Bronze) point system will be used to determine team scores. 

AWARDS 

First, Second, and Third place awards will be given in each pool or division. One special award will be given to the outstanding Ippon of the day, as well outstanding female and male athletes awards – voted on by coaches and referees attending. Places will be awarded by the following criteria in this order: 

  1. most points
  2. most wins, if points are tied
  3. head to head, if wins are tied
  4. In cases where there is a tie and head to head is not possible, there will be a one deciding match.

This tournament is open to all male and female contestants at least six (6) years of age on the day of the competition. All contestants must be registered members of and in good standing with the, American Traditional Jujutsu Association ATJA) or USA Judo (USJI). 

All contestants must present their valid ATJA, or USA Judo registration card, with acceptable proof of insurance, at the time of final registration. If a contestant is unable to present their valid registration card, he or she will be required to purchase a membership of one of the organizations at the tournament site. Responsibility for reimbursement of membership fees for those who have previously registered remains that of the individual. 

All contestants must be familiar with the sport of Judo and the rules in connection therewith and have sufficient ability to safely compete in the tournament. Contestants, their parents (in the case of minor contestants), and their instructors have the responsibility of insuring that the contestants meet this requirement. 

REGISTRATION AND ENTRY FEES - There will be no on-site registration -    Satellite weigh-in's will be available 

Novice / Brown / Black Belt

Early Bird-Registration ends – October 1, 2024 - $30

Regular registration online ends - November 13, 2024 - $40

REQUIRED FORMS

To assure the requirements for participation in the “2024 Spartan Collegiate Judo Tournament”, the following forms must be completed and submitted at the time of registration: 

  1. Official Entry Form and entry fee. Online only registration
  2. A copy of rank (rank certificate or USA Judo membership card having the verification symbol “V” printed following the rank indicated) from instructor for non-black belt competitors.
  3. These must be presented at weigh-in each day of competition.
  4. Current student ID

All forms, including the “Waiver and Release of Liability and Agreement to Participate” form, must be completed fully and signed as a precondition of the acceptance of the entry to compete. 

REFEREES

Limited referee attendance allowed - Referee meeting will be held at 9:30 am

COACHES 

Must have their USA accreditation which includes their "Safe Sport"

Opening Ceremony and competition begins 10:00 A.M. – until finished 

MAAAP Policy: The Center for SafeSport has developed the Minor Athlete Prevention Policies (MAAPP) which USA Judo has adapted to our own sport. The MAAPP is a collection of proactive and training policies comprised of two parts; Education & Training Policy that requires training for certain Adult Participants and the Required Prevention Policies, focused on limiting one-on-one interactions between Adult Participants and Minor Athletes to prevent abuse.
